Due to high demand for our driving lessons, we’re expanding our team. If you’re a qualified, DVSA-approved instructor looking to join a growing and reputable driving school, we’d love to hear from you!
One of the most common questions new learners ask is, “How many driving lessons do I need to pass my test?” The truth is, it depends on several things, like your confidence level, how quickly you pick up new skills, and how often you take lessons. At Blackburn Driving Instructor, we help you progress at a pace that’s right for you.
On average, most learner drivers in the UK take around 40 to 50 hours of professional lessons, plus extra private practice, before they’re ready for their driving test. This number can be higher or lower based on your experience, learning style, and how regularly you take lessons.
If you choose manual driving lessons, you’ll need to learn how to handle gears, clutch control, and hill starts, which might require a little more time for some learners. Automatic driving lessons are often quicker because you don’t have to worry about gear changes, so many learners feel ready for their test in fewer hours.
If you’re in a hurry, our intensive driving courses are a great way to learn fast. These lessons are packed into a shorter time, often over one or two weeks, which helps you pick up skills quickly and stay focused. Many learners who choose this option are test-ready after around 20 to 30 hours of intensive training.
To help you decide when you’re ready for your real test, we offer mock driving tests. These practice sessions follow actual test conditions and routes, giving you a clear idea of what to expect on test day. After your mock test, your instructor will give honest feedback and suggest how many more lessons you might need.
While motorway driving isn’t part of the standard practical test, it’s a valuable skill to have. Many learners choose to book motorway driving lessons after passing to build confidence on high-speed roads. It’s also a requirement within Pass Plus driving lessons, which help new drivers improve in different driving conditions.
If you want to continue improving after passing, the Pass Plus course is a smart choice. It includes extra lessons covering motorway driving, night driving, and bad weather driving — ideal for drivers looking to build experience and stay safe on all types of roads.
No two learners are the same. Some people feel confident after 20 hours, while others need 50 hours or more. It depends on how regularly you practice, how comfortable you feel in traffic, and how well you remember the skills between lessons. Our instructors will give you clear advice, so you’ll always know where you stand.
Wherever you live — Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, or Preston — our instructors are here to help. Whether you need a few refresher lessons, an intensive course, or regular weekly sessions, Blackburn Driving Instructor will support you from start to finish.
